Artist Statement
Kristina's artistic practice revolves around exploring themes of collective and individual memory and personal perception of the contemporary Russian context. In her works, she focuses on reworking and reflecting on historical context, national identity through observation, exploring the landscape of post-Soviet spaces. In her projects, she seeks to emphasize the transition from individual experience to universal understanding, interpreting objective reality into symbolic structures. Through her works she seeks to provoke a dialog about the contemporary understanding of heritage as a phenomenon and draws attention to the influence of the past in the present; how the closed value system and ideology of the victorious country affects its image in the outside world.
