Polina Rukavichkina

Polina Rukavichkina
Polina Rukavichkina (b. 1995) is a photographer who explores themes of vulnerability and connection, searching for identity and a place in society while creating an emotional snapshot of time. Rukavichkina uses a connection-driven approach to photography, which means she builds relationships with people she photographs. This approach allows her to convey intimacy in her work and invites the viewer to embrace the Other.

Polina Rukavichkina was born and raised in Minsk, Belarus and at the age of 18 she moved to Moscow to pursue contemporary photography education at the Rodchenko Art School. In 2021 she self-published a photobook titled "I Will Rip Your Heart Out." This work was shortlisted for the Kassel Photobook Dummy Award in 2021 and was nominated for the Leica Oskar Barnack Award. Polina is actively working on two projects: "Family Portrait" since 2019 and "Melting Armour" since 2022. She became a resident of Garage Museum of Contemporary Art Studios in 2022. Currently she lives and based in Moscow, Russia.
